In the beginning was... the plan

Nothing will ever exist if is has not been planned before.

That's why you should know how to plan efficiently. This short article will help you. In this article you will learn HOW to plan. In the next courses you will learn WHAT you should plan.

Goals

Every plan needs a goal. Defining your goal will be part of the first step in preparation.

Goals should be SMART:

Specific, meaning the goal should be clearly defined

Measurable, meaning you should be able to say whether the goal was reached or not Ambitious, meaning the goal should be some kind of a challenge Realistic, meaning the goal should be reachable Timed, meaning there should be a deadline

A division into subgoals makes your goals more reachable. We show you possible subgoals, but without strict deadlines. You have to set them yourself.

Milestone plan

When your main goal is specified, you have to cut it into subgoals. They are called milestones. The Kick-off is an example of a milestone. Your plan consists of these milestones.

Your plan should look like this:

Don't know how to fill the empty table? We will help you with that in the next courses.

Working Schedule

Have you defined your Milestone plan? Good! Now split it into smaller pieces. They are called working packages. Together they form the working schedule. For each working package, the following information is important:

  • Goal

  • Success Criteria

  • Implementation Plan

  • Overview

  • Start & End

Here is a small example
