    A word problem

    The curator of a small museum wants to buy a painting by a well-known local artist. It is to be sold for 5,610 €. Unfortunately, there are no funds for this acquisition. Citizens have been asked to make donations so that the purchase can go ahead.

    Donations have indeed been coming in: 3,487 € (local shops), 250 € (Mr & Ms Miller), 105 € (Ms Cooper), 280 € (Mr Carter), 1000 € (A & B Bank), 14.51 € (Chris), 634 € (staff Electricity Board).
