Farmer Claus has $210$ sheep, $100$ cows and $55$ chickens on his farm, in addition to his dogs Molly and Bello. How many animals does he have in total?

For this task you need the following basic knowledge: Written method of addition
First calculate the number of sheep and cows:

Add the $55$ chickens:

And don't forget the two dogs:

For this task you need the following basic knowledge: Written method of addition
1. Step: Add the ones.
$3 + 9 = 12$
This is more than 9. So you need to "drag the 10" one position to the left in order to "memorize" it.

2. Step: Add the tens.
Don't forget to add the "remembered" tens.
$9 + 1 + 1 = 11$
This is more than 9. So drag the 10 one position forward to the 100s and thus "memorize" it.

3. Step: Add the hundreds.
Don't forget to add the "remembered" hundredths.

153 + 84 + 27 = 264 hence the missing number is 136 as 264 + 136 = 400.

The curator of a small museum wants to buy a painting by a well-known local artist. It is to be sold for 5,610 €. Unfortunately, there are no funds for this acquisition. Citizens have been asked to make donations so that the purchase can go ahead.
Donations have indeed been coming in: 3,487 € (local shops), 250 € (Mr & Ms Miller), 105 € (Ms Cooper), 280 € (Mr Carter), 1000 € (A & B Bank), 14.51 € (Chris), 634 € (staff Electricity Board).

3487 + 250 + 105 +280 + 1,000 + 14.51 + 634 = 5,770.51 The painting can be bought.
