In this help page you will learn how roles are assigned by the community. An overview of the roles and their function can be found here: Roles of the Serlo Community.
The following principles are crucial for the process of assigning roles:
Transparency about the process
Possibility of participation by each community member
Quick and confidential agreement in case of an objection
What roles are assigned?
The community decides on the following roles:
Reviewer
Moderator
Architect
Point of contact for the subjects
Admin
How does a role assignment work?
The place to assign roles is the role-assignment channel in the community chat: #rollenvergabe. There any community member can make a suggestion for a new role. You can also propose yourself.
The message in the community chat should contain the following information:
Which role should be issued?
Introduce yourself or the proposed person briefly.
Why should you or the proposed person be given the role?
Every member of the community now has the opportunity to file an objection. The deadline is 7 days or 3 weeks for the role Admin.
If there is no objection the role is assigned by the mediators.
The mediators
The mediators mediate in case of conflicts in the assignment of roles. There are two mediators in total and they are elected by the community for 12 months at a time.
Loss of the role
You can lose a role in two ways:
Inactivity for more than 6 months
Abuse of the role: Any community member can contact the mediators if they suspect abuse. The mediators decide whether a role has been abused, with the involvement of the key persons.
If one of the conditions occurs, the role can be withdrawn. However, this does not have to happen.
