Introduction to Permaculture

Permaculture design is a planning method for sustainable systems. This method is mostly used in agriculture as well as horticulture, but was intended to be more open from the start.

When permaculture is applied to agriculture, there are various cultivation techniques to use land in the wisest and most protective way possible.

When there is an opportunity to plant in the ground, that opportunity should be taken. Clever design makes cultivation easier, such as with keyhole beds. If the soil is not suitable for planting, mound and raised beds are ideal. Special climate conditions can be created using sun traps, for example. Greenhouses also create controlled conditions. Trellises, pergolas and vertical gardens allow different levels to be utilized and the area to be multiplied. So-called unfavorable sites such as slopes can be used for simple terracing or earth greenhouses.
